Free Telescopic Astronomy Event

Sci-Tech invites the public to a free telescopic astronomy night at 9:00pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

Featured at this observing session will be the planet Jupiter with its moons, as well as spectacular telescopic views of our own Moon. This is also the peak of the Lyrid Meteor Shower, whose relatively slow moving meteors (only 30 miles/second) occasionally produce fireballs. The Lyrids result from debris left by a comet discovered in 1861, with a 422 year orbit.

Sci-Tech staff will be on hand to help viewers observe telescopic images, point out other interesting celestial phenomena, and guide viewers around the sky.

This event will be held in Watertown’s Thompson Park, on West Tower Drive, across from the 10th Mountain Division Monument.

Observers should plan to dress warmly.

In the event of overcast skies, the astronomy night will be canceled.
